I source deadstock, pre-consumer fabric, thrifted clothing and vintage finds.
I design and hand make each item from start to finish, using as few new materials as possible.
Using reclaimed materials means each design is sustainably made and totally unique.
Sustainability terms are confusing!
Here are some definitions I use to keep things transparent.
Reclaimed
While “recycled” indicates breaking a material back down to its original form and creating something new, “reclaimed” means material that has been discarded but diverted from landfill or other destruction. Reclaimed fabrics make up most of my stock, mostly sourced from a Brooklyn nonprofit that works with NYC designer brands to save excess pre-consumer fabric from going to waste.
Deadstock
Similar to reclaimed! Sometimes brands have excess fabric left on the roll after cutting all of their pieces, and sell it themselves instead of throwing it out. (Some brands really just throw it straight in the garbage though.)
Upcycled
I use upcycled to mean existing clothing or secondhand material used to create something new (like this tote bag made from a vintage skirt!)
New Material
I use as little new material as possible. Usually that’s only the thread and label! If other new fabric or notions are used, it is indicated in the item description.
